Hermeneutics: the process by which reliable meaning of biblical texts may be determined. Core to understanding this process is to recognise the preliminary understandings that we bring to the bible: our worldviews (how they affect our approach and expectations) and our language (how it works and how we use it). Certain hermeneutical ‘methods’ will be investigated but a looking-beyond-‘method’ will also be explored in the quest for true meaning and relevance of biblical texts for today.
This Special Honours course in Theology of Mission responds to our BA course wherein the contemporary and common understanding of mission as 'doing' was critiqued. Its proposed 'mission as being' is outworked in this course: both in terms of theology, but also in terms of practice.
